Batik Mandala. This fabric was my first attempt at batik. I freehanded the design as a practice exercise to learn how to use the batik tool, how hot to keep the wax, and how to stop and start lines of wax. The fabric is 100% cotton muslin (I think) and the wide banding is a feature of the fabric. I used parafin rather than the more traditional and more expensive bee's wax for the design. I learned a lot in the process, but it is clearly the work of a rank beginner. Despite the rough execution I still like the result. This hangs in the entry to my house and welcomes visitors. I've given some thought to embellishing it with beads and stretching it on a simple frame to make a more finished presentation. Perhaps one day...
